Joseph F. Rooney

Joseph F. Rooney, 78, of Williamstown, passed away September 7, 2017 after a protracted illness. 

Born in Philadelphia, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served aboard an aircraft carrier, the Franklin D. Roosevelt. Joe had many interesting stories about the FDR and loved sharing them with his family and his many friends.  Upon his return, he was a steamfitter for Local 420 in Philadelphia.  Once he retired, Joe and his wife Patricia moved to Florida where they lived for many years.  They recently relocated to Williamstown to be near their family.

“Nubs,” as he was fondly called, was a member of the Quaker City and South Philly string bands, the Knights of Columbus, and the VFW.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Patricia (nee Benedict) who recalls him as a wonderful husband, father to their three girls, and great provider.  He is also survived by three daughters, Patricia Donnelly (Drew) of West Berlin, Deborah Vecchio of Williamstown, and Susan Marino (Dave); 13 Grandchildren, Joseph, Michael and Christopher D’Angelantonio, John and Erin Donnelly, Nicole, Anthony, Jacob, Francesa, Paul and Gianna Vecchio, David and Juliet Marino; and 3 Great-grandchildren Audrey, Alexis, and Leonardo D’Angelantonio.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewings on Tuesday, September 12th from 7:00 – 9:00 PM and Wednesday, September 13th from 8:30 – 9:30 AM at the BELL-HENNESSSY FUNERAL HOME, 420 S. Main Street, Williamstown.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace Parish / St. Mary’s Church, Main St. & Carroll Ave., Williamstown.  Cremation private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
