Vito Sherma Obituary

Vito Sherma, 86, of Egg Harbor Twp., with his family by his side in his home, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 10, 2018.

Vito served three years in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning rank: Sergeant First Class. He was a Drill Sergeant and heroically fought on the front lines of battle at Heartbreak Ridge and Bloody Ridge.  Vito was awarded three Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, UN Service Medal, NJ Distinguished Service Medal and NJ Korean War Commemorative Medal.  He was a supervisor at Pacemaker Yachts and then a founding partner of Ocean Yachts.

He was an avid fisherman, skilled craftsman and hard-worker with a strong faith in God and enjoyed sharing his blessings with others. His humbleness, genuineness, generosity and fortitude will forever be remembered.

Vito deeply loved his devoted wife Marie and cherished his family. He is greatly loved by his daughter Shirvan (Edgar), grandsons Vito and Enzo, nephew Joe (Elaine) Sherma, niece Kathy (Frank) Blee, brother Al (Marge) Sherma and many others who fondly call him “Uncle Vito.”

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday, November 16th from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Church of St. Katharine Drexel, 6075 W. Jersey Ave., Egg Harbor Township.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM.  Interment with Military Honors will be held at the Atlantic County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Estell Manor.
