William Cregar Obituary

William O. Cregar peacefully journeyed to heaven on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at his home in Glassboro, NJ with family by his side.

Beloved husband of the late Elynor K. Cregar. Devoted father of Leslie (late Sterling) Radcliff, William R. & Linda D. Cregar, and the late Mark A.
Cregar. Dear brother of the late Claire Barnes. Loving grandfather of 6 grandchildren (Sterling W. Radcliff III, Mark Adam Radcliff, Courtney Murphy, Amanda L. Starsiak, William M. Cregar and Cassandra E. Cregar). Loving great-grandfather of 3 great-grandchildren (Carter F. Starsiak, Paisley E. Starsiak and Teagan G. Murphy).

Bill was born in Newark, NJ on May 2, 1925, lived in Orange, NJ, attended Irvington High School and graduated in 1943. He played football at William & Mary, served in the Navy during WWII, and finished his college football career playing in the 1946 Orange Bowl for Holy Cross. He married his high school sweetheart and soul mate, Elynor L. Kurfess, in 1946 and subsequently graduated from Holy Cross in 1947. Bill was a member of the Holy Cross Athletic Hall of Fame and played two years, 1947-48, in the National Football League as a linebacker for the Pittsburg Steelers, before pursuing a career in the FBI. After 29 years of service, he retired from the FBI as the Assistant Director of Foreign Intelligence and Counter Espionage, in February of 1980. He became the head of security for A.I. DuPont in the summer of 1980, worked for another 10 years and then retired from A.I. DuPont in 1990.

After his retirement from the work force, Bill spent his winters in Naples, Florida and his summers at the shore in Spring Lake, New Jersey. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed living on golf courses, both, in Naples and Spring Lake, but his true love was spending time with his family, especially, at the beach. His family was the most important aspect of his life and his presence will be sorely missed by all of us. Rest in peace, Dad, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, February 22nd from 4pm to 7pm at Wedgewood Country Club, 200 Hurffville Road, Turnersville, NJ.
