Brian J. Shannon, 56, of Millsboro, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones. Beloved son of Thomas and Margaret, Exeter, PA. Devoted father of Erica, Alexandria, VA and Donovan, Mantua, NJ. Former spouse of Karen Winsock Shannon, Hanover, PA. Dear brother of Thomas (Michele), Scottsdale, AZ and loving partner of Michele Stankiewicz, Barrington, NJ.
Brian was born in Kingston, PA on April 21, 1968. He was a 1986 graduate of Wyoming Area High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration from Kutztown University in 1990. Brian graduated from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA and pursued his dream in law enforcement. In 1990, Brian became an Officer with the United States Capitol Police Department. In 1995, he served in the Dignitary Protection Division for United States Congressman, Richard K. Armey and transitioned to the Department of Dignitary Protective Service, serving as a member of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich, and Dennis Hastert’s security team. In 2004, Brian graduated from the Postal Inspection Service Law Enforcement Academy in July 2004 and accepted a position as a special agent as an Inspector in Bellmawr, NJ (Philadelphia Division) receiving numerous awards of recognition from the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the United States Postal Inspection Service. In 2022, Brian retired as a U.S.Postal Inspector. Upon retirement, Brian worked as a Senior Fraud Investigator for Guidehouse, as well as Goldschmitt and Associates LLC. He also worked part time with the Continuity Operations Group specializing in emergency management and conducted background investigations for Omniplex.
Brian enjoyed spending time with his beloved family, his dogs, golf, visits to the beach, boating, coaching and attending his children’s sporting events. Some of his most cherished memories involved attending Baltimore Ravens games where he was a season ticket holder since 1996, with his children and friends. Additionally, Brian was a devoted Notre Dame and Philadelphia sports fan.
A Funeral Mass will be held 11:]00 AM Saturday, March 29th at Our Lady of Peace Parish / St. Mary’s Church / Our Lady of Peace Parish, 32 Carroll Ave., Williamstown. Cremation private.
