Emma L. Hess

Emma L. Hess (nee Altemus), 76, of Williamstown, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2026.

Born on June 30, 1949, in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, and raised in Washington Township, New Jersey.

Emma carried many cherished titles. Mommy, Grandmom or as many call her Gobber, and Auntie Em! As well as Aunt, Sister, Sister-in-law, and Friend.

Emma dedicated 25 years of her career to Snowball Foods.

Her greatest joys in life were her kids, grandkids, extended family, and friends! Spending time at her home away from home; relaxing at the campground, Friday night bingo, walks to the bay or sitting on the beach with a good book and sand between her toes. She was rarely seen without her flip-flops and enjoyed a craft beer, a glass of wine, or a Baileys with good company. And of course she cherished her Wednesday night dinners at Terry’s!

She is survived by her loving children and grandchildren: Andrea Coghill (Hess) and her son Anthony Coghill; Alison Hess and her children Josef and Joselyn Collins; and Joseph Hess Jr. and his wife Nayere and their children Elias and Liam. She is also survived by extended family and many dear friends. Along with her honorary children and grandchildren. 

Emma is now at peace and has now been reunited with the love of her life, Joseph Hess, and is once again in the company of her beloved sisters, Sandra Tisi and Kathleen Polson, who preceded her in death.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Emma’s life on Saturday, May 2nd from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM at the Bell-Hennessy Funeral Home, 420 S. Main St., Williamstown, Funeral Service will follow at 12:30 PM. Inurnment 10:00 AM Monday, May 4h at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown, 

In honor of Emma’s vibrant spirit and her love for the beach, guests are encouraged to wear colorful attire and flip-flops.
