James G. Dougherty passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2023, with his family by his side.
Jim was raised in Pennsauken, NJ and attended Camden Catholic High School, “Go Fighting Irish” after which he entered the Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Randolph. He retired from his career at UPS after 32 years of service, then he became “Mr. Jim” as he became a school bus driver. Jim always wanted to retire to Cape May, but he moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida with his wife for a few years before returning to Jersey.
From Pennsauken, Jim moved his family to Victory Lakes in Williamstown in 1977. When his children were young, he spent his time coaching Cecil Baseball and going to his kid’s basketball games. Jim liked to go deep sea fishing and trained to be a marathon runner and even entered a triathlon or two. He belonged to the Pineland Striders running club and his favorite store was Haddonfield Running Club. Jim became quite a “sneakerhead” and said he always wore his sneakers out and had to get new ones. He enjoyed taking scenic car rides, loved Cape May, and loved his favorite sports team, the Eagles.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, George and Margaret Dougherty (nee Murtaugh). He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marsha (nee Senko). Jim also leaves behind his children Brian (Sherri) and Lori and his four grandchildren Katie, Meghan, Paige and Ryan. Jim also leaves behind his two sisters, Margie (Ron) and Diane (Larry). He will be missed by his family, friends and his dogs Piper and Snoopy.
