It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Jonathan Lee Abel, who peacefully departed this life on May 10, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of family and friends.
Jon, as he was affectionately known, was born on July 10, 1968, in Brandywine, Pennsylvania, and lived a life marked by humor, intelligence, curiosity, and deep connections with those around him.
Jon was the beloved son of Gene P. Abel and his stepmother, Susan, and the late Lucy (Brinker) Dunn. He was the loving husband and best friend of Michelle Foti Abel, with whom he shared 22 years of marriage following their union on May 21, 2004.
He is survived by his devoted son, Joshua Abel; his treasured daughter, Autumn (Russell) Erasmus, and husband, Mark; and his cherished stepson, Joseph Chirico. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Tyler Abel; his brother, Paul Abel; his stepbrother, Joseph Caine; and Carol (Kallenbook), the late wife of his father, Gene.
He also leaves behind his brother, Robert Abel; his step-siblings Brian Dunn (Tracey), Elwood Dunn (Cindy), Nancy (Steve), Sean Russo, Lisa Caine, Sean Spellane, and Shelby Spellane; as well as Michelle's brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom loved him dearly.
Jon was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Lorraine Abel. He was blessed with lifelong friendships with Pickett Russell III, Wally Russell, and the Russell family, whose enduring bond remained a meaningful part of his life.
An alumni of Shawnee High School and Camden County College, Jon built a successful career in computer networking and IT support. He dedicated 17 years to Menark Technologies as a Senior Support Engineer, earning the respect and appreciation of colleagues and clients alike through his loyalty, expertise, and dedication.
Jon found joy in camping and kayaking with his children, cheering them on at games and school events, tending his garden and cultivating unusual plants, and photographing the night sky through his telescopes. A licensed drone pilot, he loved spending time in his backyard with his beloved dog Ellie and the late Cookie and Daisy, watching birds and flying drones. He was also a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan.
Known for his quick wit, sharp mind, and ability to make people laugh, Jon left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life service Friday, June 19th from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Apostles Lutheran Church, 4401 NJ-42, Turnersville. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM.
