Michael C. McGeever Sr., a lifelong Catholic and proud Philadelphian, passed away peacefully in 2025 of natural causes, surrounded by his family in New Jersey. He was 82.
Born in 1942 and raised in the Irish-Catholic neighborhood of Kensington, Michael’s life was shaped by faith, discipline, and a relentless drive to plan ahead. The early loss of his brother at age 14 instilled in him a mindset that guided his every move: be prepared, stay sharp, and think three steps ahead.
Michael began his career at the University of Pennsylvania bookstore and later took business classes at Wharton. That spirit of entrepreneurship led him to open the University City Store across the street, a beloved local fixture that reflected his love of books, business, and conversation.
He married Rosemary, the love of his life, and together they raised two children, Michael and Megan. In later years, he cherished his role as “Pop-Pop” to his grandchildren, Declan and Emerie, relishing quiet moments, dry humor, and playful wisdom.
Michael had a deep love for Cape May, where he purchased a family home in 1987. There, he spent countless mornings with smooth jazz on the radio, a cup of coffee in hand, and time to reflect. A proud Boy Scout and creative thinker, he lived his life fully, wisely, and always on his own terms.
A Mass in his honor will be held Saturday, April 5th at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Our Lady of the Peace Parish.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
