Robert Skala Obituary

Robert A. Skala, 71, of Franklinville, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021.

Robert Anton Szczykala born in Schmeilsdorf, Germany in 1949. Pre-deceased by his parents Antony and Elfriede Skala. Survived by his beloved wife and best friend Bernadette who were married for 45 years.  His Daughter, Christina Deal (Shawn), Sons, Robert (Jennifer) and Timothy (Jessica) and six joyous Grandchildren - Brianna, Brody, Kyle, Blake, Avery and Ryann. Sister, Brigitte Shiplee (Dane), Brothers, Steven (Angela) and Richard (Kathleen) as well many loved nieces and nephews.

Lifelong resident of the Star Cross section of Franklinville. Graduated from Delsea Regional High School Class of 1967. While enlisted in the U.S. Army, he served in the 554th Military Police Company. Retired from the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where he worked from 1967 until its closing. Later retired from ExxonMobil Lube Plant in Paulsboro. He was a Life Member of the Star Cross Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Board of Fire Commissioners from 2008 to 2010. He was a Classic Car Enthusiast and enjoyed attending every local car show.  He loved listening to Motown Music and vacationing in Ocean City, NJ with his wife, kids, and grandkids. He could always be found outdoors in the neighborhood hanging out with extended family. His children and Grandchildren were his most precious joy in life.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions a Family Viewing will be held from 9:30 -10:30 AM followed by a Friends Viewing from 10:30 – 11:30 AM on Friday, January 22nd at the Bell-Hennessy Funeral Home, 420 S. Main St., Williamstown. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 Noon at Our Lady of Peace Parish / St. Mary’s Church, 32 Carroll Ave., Williamstown. Cremation private.
