We mourn the passing of Shiela Abed (nee Youssef), age 88, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt on Saturday, February 29, 2020 in her home surrounded by love.
She was born in Syria on November 15, 1931. Through a combination of courage and luck she emigrated to New York alone at 16 years old. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Khalid Abed. Together they settled in Williamstown in 1968 to raise their family. Shiela was fiercely independent yet intensely devoted to those she loved. She had a green thumb and admired all plants and flowers, with a particular affinity for roses. She loved to take walks, always was singing a tune and kept everyone around her on their toes with her humor.
She is survived by her adoring husband, Khalid, of over 63 years, her seven loving children, Sareh (Bijan) Yashaya, Essam (Ada) Abed, Selwa (Brian) Grandison, Aziz (Rima) Abed, Siham Abed, Joseph (Meya) Abed, Jeneen Abed; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was a devoted and loving aunt to Sabah Youssef, Murwan (Safa) Youssef, Fatat Youssef, Mehdi Youssef and countless extended family and friends.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her and made it possible for her to remain comfortable at home in her final days.
A Funeral Service celebrating her life will be held on 10:00 AM -12:00 PM on Sunday, March 1st at the Bell-Hennessy Funeral Home, 420 S. Main Street, Williamstown. Burial service will be held at 1pm at Bethel Memorial Park, Pennsauken.
