Yvonne M. Whealin, of Williamstown, NJ, passed away at home on April 16, 2025 at the age of 101.
Born March 30, 1924, in Philadelphia, Yvonne was the daughter of Yvonne (Le Troadec) Mac Anespie and Jack Aloysius Mac Anespie who were married in France during World War I. Yvonne was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Daniel Whealin, and by her brother, John Joseph Mac Anespie.
Yvonne attended Nazareth High School. Her sharp intellect was recognized when, at the age of 18, she was hired as Manager of a Horn and Hardart retail store. Yvonne and Joe married in 1946. They bought a 10-acre farm on a dirt road in Williamstown. Yvonne grew to love the country life, her close-knit community and raising animals, especially raising and showing Airdales. She lived independently on the farm for 78 years before she died.
Yvonne was affectionately known as “Aunt Yvonne” by those who deeply admired her keen intelligence, tender generosity, unending energy and quick sense of humor. She had little interest in TV preferring to spend time crocheting, baking and reading or visiting with dear neighbors. Nieces and nephews loved visiting her farm. They remember listening to stories of her life and the family’s history. Cutting down Christmas trees, riding horses, drinking goats’ milk and receiving handmade gifts of clothing and blankets were unique gifts to these city kids.
When you left Aunt Yvonne’s home, you felt special – cherished, accepted and listened to. And you probably had a loaf of zucchini bread or a pair of crochet booties in hand – all made with love. Her welcoming smile, graciousness and wit will be remembered by everyone whose hearts Yvonne Whealin touched.
A Memorial will be held on Saturday, June 7th at 11:00 am on the farm.
