We met Shirley at the diner, and she was always smiling. She loved the sea and her sports. She also liked the cookies we gave her each holiday season. We just found out today 1/24/17 when we asked for her at the diner. Please accept our sincerest condolences, she will be greatly missed. Gail & Dennis

Shirley was one of our favorite waitresses at Winslow, and a wonderful person to have known. I know she was devastated by the loss of her daughter and that may have taken a toll on her physically, but she always had a smile and good spirit, and we will miss her greatly. Our condolences to the family and her loved ones. God has another angel.

I am very sorry for the death of your dear loved one. Although the pain will seem unbearable at times, please find comfort that there is a day coming when this earth will be filled with happy people and peace will be everywhere and Mrs. Sauerwald will be there to enjoy it (Psalms 37:10,11,29). My sincere condolences to you.

Hi Aunt Shirley. I'm just so shocked that the words don't even seem to come out easily. I haven't seen you since October, hearing this was completely not expected. I just pray that you are allowed into Heaven, and I'll pray for your soul, and for your grandkids, because Lord knows it's been 8 years since mine and I'm still trying to find strength to move on daily. I hope you rest easy and find peace within yourself now. You were never alone and always loved by so many. I love you. I'll miss you. You were like the stand-in grandmother for me for many years even though you're my great aunt. You're the only one who got to meet my nephew and hold him and I'll never forget how big of a smile you had when you got to. You loved the ocean. You were the glue that held whatever was left of the broken pieces from my grandmother's death. You saw my mom get remarried in 2012. You were there when I had to unfortunately be told the news of your sister's passing. You and Uncle Alan were both there. You were here for a long long time and I just wish you could've been here longer to see everyone grow up. You are so loved and always will be. I hope you realize that as the days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries pass. We'll always think of you. Much love and hugs to you and to the rest of the family. Times like this is when we need to all come together and not fall apart and I pray that everyone's transition from this will go smoothly and quickly so that the pain might heal a little each and every day. ❤ Rest in peace Aunt Shirley. You'll never be forgotten. 💔
